A selection of projects and collaborations - artist's notes.
Artist in residence at the Festival of the North East (2013).
I had a very busy summer drawing and painting at many of events included in the festival programme. I used a variety of mediums and went to a wide assortment of events. It was fascinating being a part of the first festival in this way, and every event I went to I learnt a new aspect of the North East's expertise and individuality. All the paintings are painted at the events themselves, so in a way I felt that I became part of that event itself. In the case of The Foghorn Requiem it was very noisy indeed!

Museum Of My Life. New Writing North (2007).
This was a project designed by New Writing North bringing writers and visual artists into the world of the museum. I worked with writer Ann Coburn and we were based at Bailiffgate Museum in Alnwick. We worked with the University of the Third Age and a group of home educators and their children. It was a fascinating project resulting in a very eclectic exhibition and a beautiful book of words and images. Pictures to be added soon.

The Magic Patchwork (2005).
A book created by older people in Newcastle upon Tyne working with writer Mary Lowe and graphic Designer Leanne Bell. The book was produced as part of an artist in residency programme developed by Age Concern Newcastle in partnership with Helix Arts. I illustrated this book by working on drawings and watercolours based on conversations with the older people. Mostly I was painting as they were talking, and also doing some workshops where they painted, drew or made mono prints on cloth. 'The Magic Patchwork' is available from Helix Arts or any (good) bookshop.

Take One Picture 'Isabella and The Pot of Basil' (2003).
A national ongoing project that The `Laing Art Gallery became involved with. Artists were asked to work for a week in primary schools using a painting in The Laing collection as the starting point. The painting was 'Isabella and the Pot of Basil' by William Holman Hunt. I worked in Hilton Primary School (West End of Newcastle) with year six. The resulting paintings were made into a huge book and all the children were invited to the exhibition at The Laing Art Gallery, where their work was exhibited. It was a very special and moving project to be involved in because it was such an amazing experience to see all the children's work shown in an impressive gallery. Pictures to be added soon.
